Data Protection

All data that reside on servers, backup media, and archive locations are encrypted at rest. Users are prohibited from storing Metabolon data on any non-network storage device or media, except for backup media, unless the data are encrypted.

Backups of all data, project documents, and other critical business data and system assets are completed on a defined schedule.

All unprocessed data are archived in the cloud and stored indefinitely.

Data Location

Our primary data center is in the United States (Durham, NC). We also use Amazon AWS (US East – N. Virginia) for short-term and long-term archival data storage and Microsoft Azure for external system hosting. All data are encrypted at rest, written to multiple disks instantly, backed up daily, and archived monthly. Customer data are stored on servers that use modern technology and techniques to reduce points of failure and data loss. Our software infrastructure is updated regularly with the latest security patches.

Encryption In-Transit/At-Rest

All data transferred over public networks use strong encryption. We use SSL Certificates issued by DigiCert SHA2 Secure Server CA and 256-bit AES encryption.

All data at rest, regardless of location (server, storage, onsite, offsite, etc.) are encrypted using 256-bit AES, FiPS 140-2 compliant encryption.

Physical Security and Protections

All servers/systems are physically secured in a Tier III certified data center. The facility is annually audited under SSAE 18 SOC 2 Type II, PCI-DSS, GLBA, and HIPAA standards and is ITAR registered. It offers the following security controls and physical protections.

• 24x7x365 electronic and physical security
• Two-factor authentication, including the use of biometric scanners
• CCTV surveillance, with a minimum of 90 days of retention
• Wet/Dry Fire Suppression System
• VESDA–Very Early Smoke Detection Alarm
• Fully 2N A-side and B-side power distribution design
• Two fully redundant 2MW diesel generators with 4,000 gallons of fuel storage
• Both A- and B-side electrical systems have modular 1,200 kW high-efficiency UPS systems
• Eight (8) 300 kVA Power Distribution Units (PDU) with branch circuit monitoring
• 100% Uptime SLA

Download your Data

You can download your study results data by accessing the Data & Integration tab and using the data export tool.

Sharing your Data

Once your data is downloaded, you may share, store or manipulate it using statistical, multi-omic, or other bioinformatic tools.
